Mobile Legends: Bang Bang has passed 1 billion downloads, with peak monthly players of around 100 million. Most of them spend their time in two places: Ranked and Classic. Here's how both work, plus the modes worth knowing for a change of pace.

The ranks

There are seven ranked tiers, from lowest to highest:

  1. Warrior
  2. Elite
  3. Master
  4. Grandmaster
  5. Epic
  6. Legend
  7. Mythic

Matchmaking pairs you with players of a similar rank. You can only party up with friends at a similar rank, or one tier above or below you.

Ranked rewards consistency over highlight plays. Two solid heroes in your best role will climb faster than ten you half-know.

Classic

Classic plays like Ranked, but wins and losses don't affect your rank. You can team up with anyone regardless of rank, and play any hero you own, this week's free heroes, or ones unlocked with trial cards. It's the place to practise new heroes before taking them into Ranked.

Brawl

A one-lane mode with two turrets per side. Every player gets random heroes, items can only be bought in base, and you can't re-enter your base unless you're respawning. A variant, Shadow Brawl, has the whole team vote from a shared set of heroes. Brawl got its own balance pass in Patch 2.2.16.

Magic Chess

An auto-battler: you take on seven other players across several rounds, buying and positioning units based on MLBB heroes and building around synergies.

Arcade

Arcade rotates in limited-time modes during events, holidays and special occasions. Check the event tab whenever a new patch lands.
